At North West Hearing, our experienced audiologists provide ear wax removal appointments using microsuction and irrigation, the two most trusted and effective techniques available.
Appointments are £60 and carried out in our Cheadle clinic.
What to Expect at Your Ear Wax Removal Appointment
Every appointment starts with a discussion about your symptoms and ear health. Your audiologist will examine your ears and talk you through the most appropriate removal method for your needs, either microsuction or irrigation. We will explain everything clearly so you know exactly what to expect. The entire process is quick, safe, and performed by trained clinical audiologists in a calm and professional setting.
Microsuction – Precise and Comfortable
Microsuction is a safe, quick, and comfortable method of ear wax removal. Using gentle suction under x20 magnification, our audiologists can see inside your ear canal with exceptional clarity, ensuring wax is removed thoroughly without any liquid involved.
It is ideal for patients with sensitive ears and typically allows you to return to your day straight after the procedure.
Irrigation – Gentle and Effective
For more stubborn or deeper wax build-up, we may recommend irrigation. This involves directing a low-pressure stream of body-temperature water along the wall of the ear canal to help soften and remove wax gently and efficiently.
This method is not suitable for those with a current ear infection or a history of ear infections, as your audiologist will always assess your ears first and advise you on the best method.
Preparing for Your Appointment
To get the best results, we recommend using olive oil or wax-softening drops for a few days before your appointment. This helps loosen the wax and makes the removal process quicker and more comfortable.
If you wear hearing aids, bring them along, and we can check and clean them for you.
Please note: if you suspect an ear infection, contact your GP before booking. We are unable to prescribe medication.
